Château de Biron: Complete Guide to Visiting

Château de Biron is one of the largest and most imposing castles in the Dordogne — a vast medieval fortress with Renaissance additions, set on a hilltop with panoramic views. With nearly 1,000 years of history carved into its stone, it is the largest château in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

History

Built in the 12th century by the Barons of Biron, this colossal fortress was expanded over centuries with Gothic and Renaissance elements. The castle remained in the Biron family until the French Revolution. It combines a medieval fortress with a Gothic chapel, Renaissance apartments, and classical wings — each century leaving its mark. The château has been used as a filming location for several movies and TV series, including The Three Musketeers and Ever After.

Fun fact: Biron is the largest château in Nouvelle-Aquitaine and has been used as a filming location for The Three Musketeers and Ever After.
